Stop The Fakes on Facebook, please. Online Digital Identity Theft is basically: stealing. (Image via CrunchBase)
Regarding the problem of online impostors – there may be a light at the end of that dark social networking tunnel afterall…
«Facebook, Twitter imposters may be outlaws in Calif.» Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signature on a bill passed by state legislators last month would make it illegal to impersonate someone on Facebook or Twitter there.~ComputerWorld.com http://t.co/pbXWDhB
**As many of you know, my friend and associate Eva La Rue (CSI: Miami) recently recorded a video message with me to try to stop the impostors** http://vimeo.com/12834736 & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xFvmPx7lZE
«A law to protect against identity theft online» Personal reputations can be ruined with just a few clicks of the mouse on the internet. In the US, sullying somebody else’s name can be done virtually almost without fear of reprisal. But now California is about to plant a significant deterrent, with a bill that awaits the signature of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. ~BBC’s Maggie Shiels reports from California http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/world_news_america/8968095.stm
One of the precautions recommended in the BBC report is to claim your digital real estate before it becomes a problem. Eva La Rue did this with her own official website, and she even posted that personal video message we recorded on it, but that hasn’t stopped the impersonators on Facebook. Eva La Rue’s Only Official website is: http://EvaLaRue.com
Definition of an Impostor: An impostor or imposter is a person who pretends to be somebody else, often to try to gain financial or social advantages through social engineering, but just as often for purposes of espionage or law enforcement. ~Wikipedia
Perhaps you can help report and Stop the Fake Eva La Rue profile (it’s not a fan or public profile page) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000749783692 which Ms La Rue’s representatives, including Turk Entertainment PR, have reported and written to Facebook about, but FB continues to allow. (Twitter & Myspace remove the fake profiles on their services).
Exposing Impostors: In 1910 Bram Stoker (the author of Dracula), published a book of nonfiction called Famous Impostors which deals with the subject of exposing various impostors and hoaxes. A complete PDF version of the book can be downloaded from Bram Stoker Online ~ Wikipedia
Apparently the Eva La Rue impersonator has used the Facebook “chat” with her duped Facebook friends, although the impostor doesn’t post on the wall any more fake messages after numerous complaints and warnings. Thanks~sb

CSI Miami's Eva La Rue went On Camera with me recently to formally say she does Not do Facebook, Twitter, MySpace~sb

More celebrities need a disclaimer like Eva’s on their Website. Even I have an “official” list of sites on my blog and I’m a nobody! LOL
The laws are a good thing. Now it just becomes a matter of enforcement. That’s should be fun!
