PS-family eJournal of our Mother’s Spinal Surgery & Recovery (via various social network media tools

(told in reverse chronology)

PPS (PositivePostScript)

Our Mother’s doctor said, although it may take 6 months to 1 year, he expects she will make a full recovery, be better than ever and this will probably even help with her Parkinsons Disease.
We can already see the results!
It’s incredible that she is out of her wheelchair only a few days after surgery and
today she is heading to a thrift store with our Auntie Peggy!
Thank you again for all your healing words, prayers, thoughts, and blessings.

Our mother is home & settled in. The surgery to repair the spinal stenosis revealed a lot of damage to her discs which hugely compressed the nerves PLUS a fractured vertabra (with subluxation), meaning our mom had a broken neck, Most likely from tripping on stairs and a fall last March! Now we know why her condition had accelerated and her health had deteriorated so quickly. Again, we are grateful to her spinal surgeon, Dr. Rod, for doing such excellent work to repair everything and make her even better with her new “million dollar neck” and she told us she hopes to take up bungee jumping soon! (she is far more brave, wild & tough than me, so you can probably imagine where I got some of my adventurous free spirit!)

So Happy I just brought my mommy home from the hospital where she had spinal surgery. While doing the surgery they found she had a broken vertabra along with the spinal spondylosis. She has been walking around since last March with a broken neck! She’s one tough woman!

Quite tired after three days (& near sleepless nights) at Swedish Hospital, but certainly well worth the time spent with my mother and especially after all that the Neuro Surgeons here have done for her/us. My sister Elizabeth took over this afternoon and now I am back at my Mom’s house, with my auntie, resting for the night. My sister plans to bring our mom home monday afternoon (after OT, PT and then she can be disharged, hopefully) for us to take care of her here. Thank you all again for your kind thoughts, prayers and well wishes~{sb}

My mother is making milestones in her recovery: she was out of her hospital bed to eat; and although not actually dancing she reports she did the “use-a-loo” jig. Tomorrow’s physical therapy won’t be a walk in the park, but it will be a walk down the hall for her~{sb}

Cool~we’ve been waiting at the Starbucks in the hospital lobby (is this only in Seattle?) Plus there’s an “Inn” on the 5th floor of the hospital for us to stay.

Hey every one,

We’ll leave here about 4am to drive to Swedish Hospital (Cherry Hill)in Seattle for 5:30am check in… 7:30 surgery Friday tomorrow 29th. Doctor Oskouian will remove damaged disc material between C4, C5, C6 (or is it 5, 6,7?) and add donor bone to create the correct spacing, then place a metal plate with screws across the vertebrae to support and strengthen them while they fuse. There’s a good chance I’ll be out Saturday. Also excellent chances of fixing the problems I’ve been having. My kids are here and my sis is den mother here at the house. One of them will update you tomorrow. Love you all, April
