WAKE UP LITTLE BROTHER (6 May 1989)

WAKE UP LITTLE BROTHER
lyrics by sarah nean bruce

Wake up little brother,
to see you lying there
I wish I could do something,
the thought I can not bare

Wake up little brother,
you know how much I care
this battle can be won,
of this I am aware.

Oh little brother, wake up –
I cry these tears for you
I just pray and I wonder –
is this really true?
I stand here and try,
to figure out the reasons why
but the tears well up again,
as I try to comprehend
so I look to the Father –
before / without falling too far down.

Wake up little brother,
I want the best for you
but that scares me so much,
and breaks my heart in two

I don’t want to lose little brother,
so I pray for the answers
then I start to cry,
as a thousand tears go by

Oh little brother, wake up –
I cry these tears for you
I just pray and I wonder –
is this really true?
I stand here and try,
to figure out the reasons why
but the tears well up again,
as I try to comprehend
so I look to the Father –
before / without falling too far down.

Wake up little brother,
I don’t want to say goodbye
I hope it isn’t done,
my father’s only son

Too fragile to hold,
God strengthen this soul
wake up little brother,
this test shall be won.

Oh little brother, wake up –
I cry these tears for you
I just pray and I wonder –
is this really true?
so I stand here and try,
to figure out the reasons why
but the tears well up again,
as I try to comprehend
still I look to the Father –
before / without falling too far down.

I know you feel my touch, I know it hurts too much …
to ponder a potential departure, of your spirit from my reality.

  1. I love this piece, sis. Here…let me share with you…I’m sure I have before. I have some more I’ll post later too.

Here’s one song I wrote for/about Brian. In 1999 (10 years after his accident)

    I love you SEE-STAR!

    From Brian

Why’d you go and let it get all broken.
You carry it around like a bad luck token.
Still, the twisted moral remains unspoken,
    Leaving you with questions…wonderin’…hopin’

Missing something you thought you didn’t have.
It ain’t like I gave up or even got the last laugh.
You had it picture perfect, but ignored it then.
Now that its been spent you want it all again.

    But you can’t have it.
Cuz I can’t give it anymore.
    I want to.
But my mind’s a little worn.

    Y’know I would…if I could.

I can’t find me, or what to be.
Where am I, as time flies by?
    I wanna scream and shout,
    “Get me off…Let me out!”
    No…I gotta sit here
    With a whisperin’ ear.
    “What is today and
    Where is yesterday?”

I hate that I’m seen like this. But
For now, it’s as good as it gets.
Think of how it used to be.
    Pray someday I’ll be free.
