We are enthused to announce the fourth of four 2011 national scholarships awarded through Beckstrand Cancer Foundation to help create a better future for college bound teens with cancer! Attending: UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles); Studying: Pre-Medicine/Pediatrics; Cancer Diagnosis: Ovarian Cancer. Essay Excerpt: Before cancer, I had never seen children struggle to save their lives before. I can remember the screams of the youngest kids that echoed my own inward pleas. I only remember thinking, I wish I could heal them…I have felt the terror of being the patient, but I hope to one day be on the other side of the equation. – Alexandra Munoz [READ MORE]

$4,000 scholarship winner: Mary Eid who wrote in our essay: Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” My perspective on and attitude involving this matter are what gave me the will and strength to suffer, endure, and rise above cancer. If I can overcome cancer, I truly believe that I can overcome anything.
